“He ignited my passion for film making” Top Gun Director Tony Scott Commits Suicide

Tony Scott, the brains behind such 80′s classics like “Top Gun” and “Beverley Hills Cop II” has committed suicide US authorities have said. 

The 68-year old director originally from North Shields leapt off the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles.

Scott was the brother of Ridley Scott of Alien fame. The brothers ran the production company Scott Free Productions together and the pair were working on a film called Killing Lincoln.  Scott produced other hits including “True Romance” and “Enemy Of The State. He also directed the action thriller The Taking of Pelham 123 with Denzel Washington. 

Scott leaves behind his wife Donna Scott and their twin sons. 

Tributes to the director flooded in via twitter. Director Duncan Jones of Source Code fame wrote on Twitter ” Tony was a truly lovely man who took me under his wing and ignited my passion for making films…My thoughts go out to his wife and beautiful children” 

Director Ron Howard also wrote “No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day.”

Actress Rosario Dawson wrote “Tony Scott…. You left us too soon. How terribly sad. What a lovely, kind human being you were. I will love and miss you much…“
