Miley Cyrus had been keeping her fans on their toes with a big Twitter announcement, but few expected it would be about her hair.
The 19-year-old has chopped off her locks to sport an edgy shaved haircut.
Miley, who is engaged to actor Liam Hemsworth, initially tweeted a picture of herself at the moment her ballet bun was about to be chopped off.
The former Disney star quickly received backlash from fans but she defended her decision.
Miley tweeted: “If you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all. My hair is attached to my head no one else’s and it’s going bye bye 
Since the chop, Miley has been tweeting about how pleased she is with her new hair do.
She said “feeling so happy in my skin” and that she has “never felt more me in my whole life”.
Miley has been experimenting with her look over the past few weeks going from her trademark brunette hair to a slick razor cut bob last month.
